What is Medicare?

Medicare is a health insurance program offered in the United States to individuals who are age 65 or older, certain younger individuals with disabilities, and people with end-stage renal disease. The program provides funds for health care services such as hospital stays, home health care services, physician visits, and prescription drug coverage. Medicare is funded through payroll taxes and premiums paid by its beneficiaries.
