What is Medicare?
Medicare is a health insurance program offered in the United States to individuals who are age 65 or older, certain younger individuals with disabilities, and people with end-stage renal disease. The program provides funds for health care services such as hospital stays, home health care services, physician visits, and prescription drug coverage. Medicare is funded through payroll taxes and premiums paid by its beneficiaries.
- Part A and B are what is called "Original Medicare"
- Hospital care, including stays in a hospital, critical access hospitals (CAHs), skilled nursing facility (SNF), and hospice
- Home health care services
- Blood transfusions
- Durable medical equipment
- Inpatient mental health treatments
Medicare Part A
- Help cover out-of-pocket expenses such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles that are not covered by Original Medicare.
- Additional coverage for services like hospitalization, emergency care, at-home health care, and medical care received while traveling abroad.
- Coverage for preventive services like flu shots and other vaccinations.
Medicare Supplement

- Hospital stays, doctor visits, lab tests, and some other health care services.
- Preventive care like flu shots and other vaccinations.
- Supplemental coverage for ambulance rides, durable medical equipment, physical therapy, and hospice or chronic care.
- Dental, Vision, Hearing, OTC, Transportation, Chiropractic Care, acupuncture, telehealth and more
- Sometimes includes prescription drug coverage
- Prescription Drug Cost
Medicare Part D
Medicare Part C
